THE BURN BAN IS OFF!

Welcome to Shackelford County, Texas.

New County Information

Notice for the County, November 13, 2023

Shackelford County Commissioners voted this morning to lift the burn ban effective immediately. Conditions have improved to the degree that open controlled fires do not pose the great risk that we have guarded against for several months now.

It is good to be aware that, burn ban or not, the burner still bears responsibility for their fire(s). Therefore, look for alternatives to burning in order to avoid liability altogether, and if you do burn, take all precautions to prevent your fires from getting out of control. You need:
- a very low or no wind
- relatively high humidity (such as in the morning or evening - burning in the rain is even better yet)
- access to water source to hold fire down to a manageable level and
- allotted time to monitor your fire until it has completely burned down cool.

Love your neighbors.

And call the Sheriff's Office prior to lighting a fire so that they will be aware and can respond appropriately if a concerned neighbor should report your smoke.

Take Care!
